The Crushers broke into the proffesional hockey scence in the early 50's under city management, however after several unsuccessfull season, the now defunct Alberta Hockey League (AHL), couldn't attract the fan base required to ice a competitive teams, resulting in a complete fold of the league and the teams within it. Teams played a 20 game season, and players were only paid living and food expenses. The team never made it to the AHL Playoffs.
In the 1970's, the Crushers moved in to the Alberta Roller Hockey League (ARHL). This co-ed game was very popular with young girls. It was an interesting non-contact affair. Little kids around the city were seem playing the game at home with their friends, however they weren't seen paying the ticket price for addmission and financially the Crushers were a dissaster. Suprisingly the team survived for 20 long seasons, although if you ask anyone from the Calgary area I'm sure they will say they've never heard of it.
